On The Nature Of Things
Tony nominated choreographer Karole Armitage will premiere a new site-specific dance production about climate change, the perfect storm of environmental problems that the world faces, and its cultural context, created specifically for the Museum’s Milstein Hall of Ocean Life. MacArthur Fellow and famed Stanford University biologist Paul Ehrlich wrote an original text and will perform as the narrator. The production includes Armitage Gone! Dance joined by guest dancers from the NYC dance community and young dancers from the Manhattan Youth Ballet with lighting by Clifton Taylor and music by John Luther Adams, Philip Glass, Michael Gordon, Henryk Gorecki and Arvo Pärt.
On the Nature of Things was directly shaped by the Milstein Hall of Ocean Life dioramas, exhibits, and labels as well as by conversations with Museum Curator Rob DeSalle, and offers a new way of engaging with one of the most important, and most complex, scientific topics of our time.
