The Elegant Universe – work in progress
One of the world’s leading string theorists, Brian Greene, is collaborating with choreographer, Karole Armitage and composer, Lukas Ligeti, to create a theatrical work based on his best-selling book and Nova television series, The Elegant Universe. The production unveils the central drama of current theoretical physics: the incompatibility of the two pillars of modern science: Einstein’s Relativity and Quantum Mechanics. Enter into the fray, a new postulate, string theory, which resolves the conflict and revolutionizes our understanding of the universe. Scientific principles will shape the form of the music and dance thus showing the deep kinship of art and science. This approach will make theoretical physics both a visceral experience and an exciting, mind expanding trip. Armitage and Ligeti will present sketches of brand new material at the Works and Process presentation. Physicists Henry Gates (May 30) and Brian Green (May 31) will outline the history of physics that leads to string theory and elaborate on the concepts presented on stage.
